The 50–54 Red Bank development will bring forward 509 new apartments, complemented by shared amenities, landscaped outdoor spaces, and panoramic views across the city. Reports Contract Journal
At ground level, the proposals include commercial units to enhance the bustling Red Bank arches, along with more than 2,000 sq m of public space connecting directly to the historic viaduct.
Following public consultation, two planning applications will be submitted — one covering the residential towers and surrounding public realm, and another focused on wider access improvements to the viaduct.
Current tenant GRUB will relocate to enable the scheme to move ahead.
A spokesperson for the project team said: “These proposals bring forward much-needed homes, alongside new public space and active ground floor uses that will add to the life of the area.”
“Red Bank is fast becoming a creative and vibrant part of Manchester, and our vision is to build on this character to create a distinctive new neighbourhood.”
The project supports Manchester City Council’s Northern Gateway Strategic Regeneration Framework, which sets out ambitions to deliver 15,000 new homes over the next 10–15 years.
Designed as a largely car-free community, the scheme will prioritise cycle storage, pedestrian connections, and sustainable features such as air source heat pumps.
