Ascot Brickwork Specialist Harlequin Enters Administration

The collapse follows a winding-up petition filed against Harlequin by creditor ACS Stainless Steel Fixings. The petition had been scheduled to be heard at the High Court in Leeds on 8 September.

Marco Piacquadio and Alan Coleman of FTS Recovery have since been appointed as administrators of the business.

Founded in 2011, Harlequin developed into a sizeable brickwork, masonry and scaffolding specialist, working on major residential developments across London and the South East.

At its peak, the company employed more than 500 site operatives and over 50 office staff, while annual turnover reached around £24m.

More recent accounts showed turnover falling from £18.5m in 2022 to £10.5m in 2023. The company recorded a pre-tax profit of £151,000 in 2023.

Harlequin established a track record on several high-profile developments, including Berkeley Homes’ One Tower Bridge, where its brickwork and stonework package was valued at £3.5m.

Other projects listed by the company included Bracknell town centre for Hill, Colindale Gardens, Kew Bridge and Brentford Football Stadium, as well as residential developments in Staines and Wandsworth.

The business was founded by Billy Sutcliffe, who remained its sole director after James McGrail stepped down as finance director last month.
