Early 2021 is the scheduled time to start construction of 6,500 new homes along with a commercial development in York city centre. The site next to York station will witness the works as the councilors have voted in favor for the first phase.
£77 million of Government funding is already backed for the first phase of construction. This site is one of the largest Brownfield areas in England. Approximately 6,500 is the possibility of job creation on this project, as it progresses.
With the encirclement by railway lines, the site does have an access through the east coast main line constructed with a new bridge. Besides, construction of new parks, cycling and pedestrian walks can be seen once the drainage systems are in place.
Network Rail and Homes England made their part for development through land acquisition and master planning. Both of them will now oversee the infrastructure projects. The contribution of £77 million in Government funding is part of a wider £155 million funding package.
