Client City Life Developments has appointed Wakefield-based Henley as the principal contractor for the refurbishment of the Grade II-listed Midland Mill, a key part of a wider regeneration scheme that includes a new 33-storey tower led by main contractor Torsion. Reports Contract Journal

Dating back to 1793, the historic Midland Mill is a prominent landmark on Leeds’ South Bank. Restoration works are already underway and include the careful dismantling and reconstruction of several original façades to preserve the building’s heritage.

Henley will install custom-made stainless-steel reinforcements, manufactured by its sister company HZS Stainless Steel, which will be seamlessly integrated with the existing timber and masonry structure. A new steel-framed roof, finished in traditional slate, will feature solar PV tiles designed to generate over 40,000 kWh of electricity annually.

The intricate refurbishment is being delivered by Henley’s in-house teams, including Henley Brickwork, Rail, and Stone Specialists, bringing together a wide range of expertise to restore and future-proof the historic mill.

Tom Cardoe, md of restoration at Henley, said: “Our role isn’t just to preserve the past; it is to engineer it for the future.”
