The THE (Times Higher Education) Awards 2020 was the biggest celebration in the UK Higher Education calendar and a project created by Heriot-Watt has won the STEM Research Project of the year.
The celebration does note hundreds of entries from all over the UK each year. In this year’s academics awards, the project named a recycled brick was picked from a research project which began over a decade ago to explore traditional and sustainable construction methods.
The team that won the award was led by Dr Sam Chapman and Professor Gabriela Medero. The research also focused on historical techniques for modern day application. The judges lauded the ‘important contribution that the project had made to sustainable construction worldwide.’
The research project was described as the K-Briq as a ‘potential game changer’ and recognized for the far reaching impact.
