The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has selected Kier to build a £28 million Health and Wellbeing Centre in Newport. The new Ringland center will house two existing GP practices and new facilities for general medical services, dentistry, social care, and third-sector partners.
An existing community hub will be linked to the new structure to strengthen the services offered to promote well-being, reduce loneliness, and promote independent living. Work on the new facility, which is scheduled to open in January 2025, has begun.
“This is a significant project for the community in Newport and our Wales business, and we are pleased to be getting started on site,” said Jason Taylor, regional director at Kier Construction Western & Wales. “This new Health and Wellbeing Centre will connect directly to the community hub, allowing for effective integration with larger community services and the creation of a community focus on health and wellbeing.”
