The strategic investment provides Murphy with a strong entry point into the rapidly expanding Australasian market, aligning with its broader objective to diversify its operations internationally. Reports Contract Journal
Abergeldie, a privately-owned contractor established in 1994 by husband-and-wife team Mick Boyle and Robin Craig, is known for delivering complex projects across the transport, water, and energy sectors.
In the past year, Abergeldie reported a turnover of £350 million and employs over 800 people across Australia and New Zealand.
The acquisition is viewed as a springboard for Murphy’s expansion into the ANZ region, mirroring the company’s successful growth strategy in North America. It marks Murphy’s first foray into the southern hemisphere and reinforces its track record of international growth through strategic partnerships and acquisitions in markets such as Canada and the US.
John Murphy, chief executive officer, said: “Having expanded into North America in recent years, this investment marks the latest step in our plans to extend our geographical reach while remaining focused on our commitment to improving life by delivering world-class infrastructure.
“We are very positive on the outlook for the Australian market and I am looking forward to working with the Abergeldie team to help them deliver on the next exciting stage of their growth plans, building on the great work they have done over the past thirty years.”
Abergeldie chief executive officer, Mark Bruzzone, said: “This partnership with Murphy is a significant milestone, providing Abergeldie with valuable strategic and technical expertise to support our continued growth and diversification in Australia and New Zealand.
“This will equip Abergeldie with additional technical capabilities to enhance the delivery of larger projects to our valued clients, setting the foundation to enable us to continue to build better communities now and into the future.”
