The new structure will complete the renovation of the former Fry’s Chocolate Factory Site and provide more independent living space within the retirement community, as well as affordable housing apartments for local residents. The works, which will be completed in September 2025 by RED Construction’s South West team, will include the removal of an existing basement, the construction of a five-story block of 44 extra-care apartments, a communal café, a basement plant room, a cycle store, and extensive associated external works, reports Contract Journal.
The St Monica Trust, a Bristol-based charity, founded The Chocolate Quarter six years ago to establish a community where older people may enjoy life in colourful surroundings that match their requirements.
“The construction of Block D not only marks the completion of the Trust’s redevelopment of the former Fry’s Chocolate Factory, but it also fulfils our original commitment to provide affordable housing for the local community,” stated David Williams, chief executive of St Monica Trust.
This follows the announcement that RED Construction Group has been selected to deliver the £31 million redevelopment of 55 Pall Mall by its dedicated London team. The new office building will have a basement, ground floor, and seven storeys, with a Net Internal Area of more than 35,000 square feet.
