United Living has completed its exit from housebuilding, with Andrew McDonough taking full ownership of the homes business through a management buy-out.
McDonough, previously managing director of the group’s multi-family division, will now lead the standalone company, while all existing projects and staff across both single-family and multi-family teams will continue as before. The same legal employing entity will remain in place, with no changes to employment terms.
The move formally ends United Living’s involvement in housebuilding and marks the retirement of the brand from the sector. It follows the company’s decision last year to stop taking on new housing work as it refocused on higher-growth areas such as decarbonisation, energy transition, digital infrastructure and property services.
The group said the divestment allows it to concentrate resources on these expanding markets, while giving the homes business the opportunity to grow independently under new ownership.
McDonough is expected to outline his strategy for the newly independent homes business in the coming weeks.
