ValkerFitzpatrick awarded with £17m Haberdashers expansion

VolkerFitzpatrick has won a £17m contract to construct two new classroom buildings for Aske’s Boys school at Haberdashers. This construction in Hertfordshire will witness a new three-storey building for English and languages, and two-storey building for economics and maths.

The construction began in January and is due to complete in April 2022. The sister company VolkerGround Engineering has installed reinforced concrete frames, supported by continuous flight auger (CFA) piled foundations for both buildings.

The buildings’ exteriors will have brick cladding, with aluminium windows and zinc-clad pitched roofing. The designers made sure to keep the buildings’ interior aesthetic consistent with that of the existing school.

Oak glazing will be made available for the corridors and internal doors while corridor ceilings will be oak timber. Ceilings with a ratio of approximately 50% will be removable, allowing access to mechanical systems within the ceiling void.
