Vinci Secures Approval for £35m St Helens Transport Hub Project

A brand-new Interchange is set to transform public transport in St Helens, featuring 11 modern bus stands, enclosed waiting areas, a Travel Centre, real-time information screens, step-free access, and secure cycle parking. It replaces the former bus station, which has already been cleared to make way for the development. Reports Contract Journal

The project is being delivered through a partnership between St Helens Council and ECF – a joint venture comprising Muse, Homes England, and Legal & General – with financial backing of £32 million from the Liverpool City Region and an additional £3.25 million from the Towns Fund.

Enabling works, including underground service installations, are already underway. Main construction activity is expected to accelerate next year, with completion scheduled for 2026 to align with the launch of the Liverpool City Region’s first franchised bus services.

This Interchange is a key element of the wider town centre regeneration masterplan, which also includes a new market hall, a 120-room Hampton by Hilton hotel, 57 residential apartments, 8 townhouses, and a mix of retail units. The full regeneration package is supported by £69 million in combined public and private investment.
