VolkerFitzpatrick succeeds Birmingham University Station works worth £56m

The West Midlands Combined Authority has appointed VolkerFitzpatrick to work on the detailed design and build of the new £56m University Station. Birmingham University Station was opened in 1978 and since then has seen a 700% increase in passenger numbers.

VolkerFitzpatrick will deliver the detailed design and build of the new station under this upgrade project. This project will provide a gateway onto the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus and nearby hospital site.

The construction of a new railway station building will feature wider platforms, a ticket office, lifts, canopy coverage along the platforms, provision for a retail unit, and a new pedestrian canal bridge that acts as a direct link with the University of Birmingham campus.

The existing station building will be used as a passenger exit from the station.
