Wates receives green light for underground houses project

The new development with expansion of Winnall Flats site will be carried out by Wates. Winchester council made a decision to handover the construction works to Wates on the outskirts of Winchester.

The appointed firm is scheduled to start work on site in summer 2021. The move comes following the submission of a planning application. In the new expansion scheme, Wates will build 76 homes including 35 to be sold through shared ownership and 41 for affordable rent.

The home’s construction will be built according to AECB standards. They cover the home’s design to have such a low heating demand and no conventional heating system is needed. Wates has acquired these works in Southern Construction Framework.

Currently there already exist 156 homes across four apartment blocks in the Winnall Flats scheme. 25 flats have been sold as leasehold in a total of 156 and the remaining is council owned.
