Willmott Dixon Cleared to Rebuild Stockport School Hit by RAAC

Work on the new three-storey school is expected to begin in January 2027. The building will replace the existing campus, which has been affected by reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) issues.

Designed by Sheppard Robson, the replacement school will accommodate 1,350 pupils on the existing 36-acre site off Seal Road.

The new building will be constructed alongside the current school before most of the existing buildings are demolished. The newer maths block will be retained.

The consolidated school will include 25 general classrooms, 10 science laboratories and specialist teaching spaces for drama, computing, ICT, art and design.

The scheme will also provide five SEND classrooms, an assembly hall with tiered seating, dining and library areas, as well as staff and support facilities.

Sports provision will include a four-court indoor sports hall, an activity studio and changing rooms.

External facilities will include two replacement multi-use games areas and a new 3G pitch. The existing hockey pitch will also be retained.
