Darlington-based Hughes Bros specialises in earthworks and site preparation for new-build housing schemes.
The company’s latest results, covering the year to November 30, 2025, show turnover of £34.7m and a pre-tax profit of £690,000.
Applebridge has also acquired Hughes Bros’ sister company, JIG Drainage, as part of the deal.
Both businesses will continue trading under their existing names following the acquisition.

The Applebridge Family comprises nine construction companies operating across the residential, commercial and multi-utility sectors, with a combined annual turnover of £160m.
