Sunderland master plan for 1,000-home new city quarter

Sunderland master plan for 1,000-home new city quarter

A master plan comprising new housing and business quarter is revealed by Sunderland City Council as part of regeneration at the city centre. The council is planning to reform a 33.2 hectare site present on both sides of the River Wear.

This planning will create the country’s first carbon-neutral urban quarter. It includes 1,000 new homes and office space for up to 10,000 workers. The Riverside Sunderland plan is being associated with a £100m investment commitment from Legal & General.

The investments with a total of £160m are being pledged under this scheme along with another site in the city. As part of the wider Riverside Sunderland regeneration project, three buildings at the former Vaux Brewery site are funded by L&G.
