The Department for Transport has given the green light to the long-anticipated scheme following a six-month review by the Planning Inspectorate, paving the way for the congestion-relief project to move forward. Reports Contract Journal
Construction, led by Costain, is not expected to begin until late summer 2026, making use of compounds originally set up for the company’s earlier M62 project, which was later shelved.
As delivery integration partner, Costain will work alongside design partner Jacobs to revamp the heavily used junction. The project will involve complex traffic management measures to ensure tens of thousands of vehicles continue to flow smoothly throughout the construction phase.
