Each site will see the addition of four new houseblocks, along with upgraded site-wide infrastructure and improvements to ancillary facilities, with completion expected by early 2027.
These latest projects bring Kier’s total to 30 houseblocks delivered for the Ministry of Justice and the Scottish Prison Service in recent years, further reinforcing its reputation as one of the UK’s leading contractors in the justice sector.
The firm has already completed HMP Five Wells and HMP Millsike and is currently progressing expansion works at HMPs Elmley, Bullingdon, and Channings Wood. The projects form part of the government’s £14bn prison capacity programme, which aims to create 14,000 new places by 2031.
Kier’s Making Ground programme continues to drive positive change, with 29 prisoners at HMP Channings Wood recently graduating from its ‘Hard Hat Ready’ training course. Over the past three years, the initiative has helped 75 prison leavers secure employment and created 64 temporary licence placements, providing valuable pathways into the construction industry.
