Approval has been granted for a major mental health upgrade for Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust, unlocking construction on a long-planned scheme supported by £50m of government funding.

The project will combine the refurbishment of bedrooms across two existing wards — delivering full en-suite provision — with the construction of a new modular two-storey ward block by McAvoy.

Designs by P+HS Architects have been developed in close collaboration with service users, alongside clinical and estates teams, placing emphasis on increased natural light, access to outdoor space and calmer, more therapeutic internal environments.

Trust chief executive Therese Patten said: “This is an important milestone for the Trust and for the people who rely on our mental health services.

“The redevelopment of the central block will bring significant improvements to Lynfield Mount Hospital, to create a facility that supports the recovery and wellbeing of service users, and a better working environment for staff.”
