Muse Places has been appointed to lead the delivery of up to 10,000 new homes alongside significant commercial space, public realm improvements and transport upgrades centred on the city’s main rail interchange.

The role positions Muse at the heart of coordinated regeneration at Temple Meads West, while also supporting the development of longer-term proposals for St Philip’s Marsh.

Temple Meads West comprises a series of publicly owned sites directly adjoining Bristol Temple Meads, including land at the Friary, the City Point building and multi-storey car park at Temple Gate, Lower Station Approach and the Portwall Lane car park.

Muse will now begin work on an outline planning application for Temple Meads West, with submission targeted for early 2027.

In parallel, the developer will assist BTQ LLP with emerging plans for St Philip’s Marsh, one of the largest remaining brownfield regeneration opportunities in central Bristol and a core element of the wider 135-hectare Temple Quarter programme.

Bristol Temple Quarter is being progressed through a partnership between Homes England, Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority.

BTQ LLP said Muse was selected for its strong regeneration credentials and proven delivery record, pointing to major schemes in Salford, Plymouth and London, as well as its long-established work in Bristol at Wapping Wharf.

The appointment comes as momentum gathers across Temple Quarter, with substantial public investment already under way. Construction of a £23m eastern entrance to the station is in progress, funded through a £95m government grant to BTQ LLP, and is scheduled to open in September 2026 alongside the University of Bristol’s £500m Enterprise Campus.

Further transport investment is also moving forward. In November, BTQ LLP secured a resolution to grant planning permission for the Southern Gateway transport hub. A contractor is expected to be appointed this month, with works due to start on site in July.
