Plans have been submitted for the development of a new deep-water Southern Terminal at the Outer Harbour, featuring 350 metres of additional quay, a RoRo ramp, a heavy lift pad, and 10 hectares of reinforced storage space. Reports Contract Journal
The port already plays a vital role in supporting major projects such as Sizewell C and offshore wind developments in the southern North Sea, with growing demand from contractors and developers driving the need for expansion.
Port Director Richard Goffin said: “We’re seeing strong momentum across key UK infrastructure and energy projects, and this expansion will position Great Yarmouth to play an even more significant role.”
He noted that the terminal’s strategic location offers a clear advantage over other east coast ports, avoiding tidal constraints, shallow access channels, and traffic congestion.
Peel Ports is targeting planning approval by early 2026.
