A pre-pack administration has secured the future of 32 jobs at high-voltage specialist Gunning Transmission & Distribution Services.
The Stafford-based contractor had enjoyed rapid growth, doubling its turnover to £97m in 2024, largely through framework agreements with National Grid.
However, a series of loss-making contracts placed severe pressure on cashflow, ultimately pushing the business into collapse.
GTDS had been battling financial distress for much of last year, facing three winding-up petitions and accruing 39 supporting creditors by November. Directors later acknowledged that a solvent rescue was no longer achievable.
Administrators Gareth Slater and Joshua Dwyer of Interpath completed a pre-pack sale of the company’s assets, resulting in the transfer of staff to Strabag UK. Operations will continue from the existing Stafford base under the new ownership.
Simon Wild, managing director at Strabag UK, said: “We have been seeking to expand our UK presence in the high-voltage and energy sector, and the opportunity to bring specialist capability with a strong and talented team into Strabag was one we could not ignore.
“This approach allows us to leverage our global-local model, enabling us to bring the best of Strabag to this power infrastructure programme, which will contribute to upgrading and modernising the UK’s electricity network.”
