Durkan has confirmed plans to withdraw from the contracting sector after more than 50 years of operating in the market.
The move was confirmed in the latest results for parent company Durkan Holdings Ltd, following a period in which the contracting operation was gradually scaled down.
The company said: “Following more than 50 years operating in the contracting sector, Durkan has taken the strategic decision to withdraw from this activity.
“This decision reflects the increasing legislative and regulatory burden in the sector which has driven heightened risk and declining returns.”
The decision leaves Durkan focused on its homes and regeneration businesses. The company completed its final contracting project in Greenwich as part of the withdrawal.
Legacy fire remediation costs will continue to be treated as exceptional items. The group set aside £18.6m for these costs last year.
The gradual reduction of contracting activity contributed to a fall in group turnover. Revenue dropped to £146m for the year to 30 November 2025, compared with £192m in the previous year.
Contracting remained the group’s largest revenue source last year, generating £86.7m in turnover.
The Regen business generated £28.7m, while the Homes division recorded turnover of £30m.
Durkan will now operate as a homes and regeneration business following its exit from contracting, with the group seeking to focus on these remaining areas of activity.
