The Department for Education-backed scheme will replace ageing teaching blocks, some of which date back to the 1950s, with a new school campus designed to accommodate 1,350 pupils.
Enabling works are due to begin this month, following preparatory activity carried out by the contractor during the summer holidays.
Willmott Dixon will deliver the demolition and construction programme in phases over several years, allowing the academy, which is part of Carlton Academy Trust, to remain operational throughout the redevelopment.
The project will centre on a new two- and three-storey teaching building alongside a separate sports centre. The existing performing arts hall will also be refurbished and incorporated into the redesigned school campus.
New multi-use games areas, additional football pitches and landscaped outdoor learning spaces will form part of the wider redevelopment, creating improved facilities for both pupils and the surrounding community.
The rebuild will increase the school’s capacity from around 1,275 pupils to 1,350 and provide greater opportunities for local residents to access its sports and performing arts facilities.
Principal John Higgins said: “The new building will not only transform the learning environment for our students but will also become a hub for the local community.”
