The contractor has been appointed as principal supply chain partner for NHS Lothian on a new specialist eye facility at the Edinburgh BioQuarter in Little France.
The development will replace the ageing Eye Pavilion, which was first deemed “not fit for purpose” in 2014.
Since that assessment, the scheme has faced a series of setbacks, including funding withdrawals, budget freezes and shifting government priorities, delaying the anticipated opening until late 2027 or later.
In 2018, Graham had been lined up under a £45m contract to deliver the hospital. However, escalating costs caused the project to stall before work could progress.
The new facility will be located alongside the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, strengthening the capital’s growing healthcare and research campus.
Kier Group said it would bring experience from delivering specialist eye care schemes, including the NHS Golden Jubilee Eye Hospitaland Sunderland Eye Infirmary.
Sean Fenner, Managing Director, Kier Construction North & Scotland, said: “We are proud to be the Principal Supply Chain Partner for NHS Lothian to deliver early construction works at the new Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion.”
