He joined Laing O’Rourke in 2002 as a graduate civil engineer and has been with the business ever since.
The Europe Managing Director role has been interim since late 2022, following the departure of the former incumbent, Seamus French. Initially, the position was filled by the company’s founder, Ray O’Rourke, and later by his son, Cathal, in 2023. Cathal has now made a permanent appointment after conducting a review of the Europe hub’s structure.
Group Chief Executive Officer, Cathal O’Rourke said: “It’s a testament to the business and the strength of our leadership that we had an internal candidate with such a strong, people-focused leadership style and depth of operational experience.
“Peter and I will begin a transition in the New Year, and he will start in the role of Managing Director on 3 February 2025.
