A £60m mixed-use community scheme plan was submitted by Developer Capital & Centric at Weir Mill in Stockport. C&C will construct flats in the town centre site in a plan submitted with a 253 flats scheme.
There are already 87 within the existing mill buildings and 167 in the two new buildings. A new indoor space with vaulted arches, exposed brick, and skylights will be part of the 24,000 sq ft of commercial space including the West Shed.
Weir Mill started off life as water-powered cotton works in the late 18th century, located alongside the town’s iconic viaduct. This also includes the original water wheelhouse and parts of the mill buildings are currently present.
Stockport’s Mayoral Development Corporation is part of the Weir Mill scheme for £1bn town centre regeneration plans. It is one of the first projects to come forward in the new Town Centre West regeneration zone.
This Weir mill scheme will deliver 3,500 new homes and amenities, 1m square feet of employment, leisure, retail, health and education space. It will create over 5,000 new jobs. Construction would take around two years, once the project is approved.
