McAleer & Rushe awarded £60m Barking flats job

The vacant London Road site and former bus depot will be transformed into 125 build-to-rent and 71 affordable flats with buildings ranging in height from 9 to 22 storeys.

The buildings will be located on a prominent corner on the outskirts of Barking Town Centre, with two commercial units on the ground floor and two roof terraces offering panoramic views of the Abbey Green parkland and long views towards central London.

Contract Journal learns that Construction will begin in November and be partially funded by BeFirst, Barking & Dagenham Council’s urban regeneration arm, with a completion date of June 2026.

“This latest residential contract, one of eight currently under construction in the greater London area, underpins our solid client relations, vast skill set, and proven track record in delivering the highest city centre residential schemes,” said Mark Diamond, senior director at McAleer & Rushe. “We are excited to collaborate with Yara Capital and BeFirst to offer modern and sustainable housing to Barking’s historic heart.”
