Northumberland County Council is looking for a construction contractor to build six new railway stations and also advertised the requirement. The £162m Northumberland Line rail project will bring passenger trains back into service between Newcastle and Ashington.
The council is looking for a contractor to take on this six stations project on a framework basis. New stations at Northumberland Park, Bedlington, Newsham, and Ashington are in phase one of the project. The construction works are expected to start in summer 2022.
Besides, additional stations at Seaton Delaval and Blyth Bebside are considered in phase two, which could start in 2024. Aecom and SLC Rail have been working on plans for the county council since 2018.
The scope of the £40m stations contract includes the construction of six stations and car parks, including associated infrastructure.
