Hundreds of electricians, pipe-fitters, welders, joiners, and groundworkers are set to strike until 2 November as part of the latest phase in an escalating dispute led by the Unite union.

Unite says construction workers employed by six subcontractors — Altrad, Enigma, ES Steel, Kaefer, Meldrum, and PPS Electrical — are being denied the same site-specific allowances that are offered on other major nuclear projects, including Hinkley Point C.

The walkout will again be accompanied by an overtime ban, designed to intensify disruption to operations at the site.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “The employers at Sellafield need to start treating our members fairly. They are highly skilled workers operating in extremely demanding conditions.”

A spokesperson for Sellafield Ltd said the company does not directly employ the striking workers but emphasised that “safety and security will remain the highest priority” during the industrial action.
