McNerney, currently serving as director for clients and government at Laing O’Rourke, brings more than 25 years of leadership experience across UK and international construction and manufacturing sectors. Reports Contract Journal

He has previously overseen O’Rourke’s £1.3bn UK construction business and headed divisions such as Select Plant Hire, Explore Manufacturing, and Crown House Technologies.

Over the course of his career, McNerney has been instrumental in delivering major schemes including Everton’s new stadium and Oxford University’s Humanities campus — both with Severfield as the primary steelwork contractor.

His global experience includes launching infrastructure operations in New South Wales and driving entry into oil and gas markets.

Severfield chair Charlie Cornish said McNerney’s blend of strategic vision and operational expertise would be pivotal in guiding the group “through its rebuilding process to the next phase of its growth and innovation” after recent challenges.

A confirmed start date will be announced in the coming weeks.
