In order to complete a £1 billion package of planned groundwork and concrete structural work at the nuclear cleanup site over the next 17 years, Sellafield’s project delivery team has hired Sir Robert McAlpine.
The largest contract from the procurement shake-up to promote more collaborative working has been approved by the Programme and Project Partners team. Initially, the giant foundation, concrete buildings, and blockwork package were meant to be shared by two important delivery partners. The agreement comes as Sellafield’s workload increases, making it one of the nation’s greatest infrastructure projects and providing employment for 60,000 people.
“Through this long-term appointment, we intend to make a lasting, positive impact on local communities in West Cumbria by boosting employment, promoting skills and education, working with trusted supply chain partners in the region, and creating a tangible, measurable social impact,” said Tony Gates, managing director for civil engineering at Sir Robert McAlpine.
“Sir Robert McAlpine has committed to both the Building Future Trades and the Programme and Project Partners Internship Scheme in addition to helping to support local jobs,” said Luke Richardson, head of the social impact for Programme and Project Partners.
