The contractor has secured an £8.7 million early contractor involvement (ECI) contract to help develop Thames Water’s flagship AMP8 infrastructure project, supporting the design and planning phase ahead of construction.
Working alongside Thames Water and the project’s design team, the contractor will finalise the scheme’s design, identify and manage delivery risks, and prepare the development for the construction stage.
The project centres on the Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment Works at Maple Cross, near Rickmansworth, which serves almost 500,000 people across west Hertfordshire. The 24-acre facility treats wastewater before discharging it into the Grand Union Canal and the River Colne.
The planned upgrade will increase the treatment works’ capacity, introduce additional stormwater storage and enhance the site’s operational resilience and environmental performance, while ensuring the facility remains fully operational throughout the construction programme.
The proposed works include improvements to stormwater storage, inlet works, screening facilities, primary settlement processes and biological treatment systems. The scheme will also deliver new final settlement tanks, tertiary treatment facilities and upgrades to electrical, control and monitoring infrastructure.

The latest award further strengthens the contractor’s long-standing partnership with Thames Water, building on previous major infrastructure projects including the Deephams and £66 million Mogden Sewage Treatment Works upgrades, as well as the £45 million Faringdon to Blunsdon pipeline project.
