Southend-on-Sea City Council initially selected Willmott Dixon as its construction partner last July. The contractor signed a pre-construction agreement with the council, aiming to finalize the cost and works plan for the project, initially valued at £5.8 million. Reports Contract Journal
However, after both parties failed to agree on the price earlier this year, the project was re-tendered. Auburn Group, based in Rochford, has now secured the contract, with work scheduled to begin later this month.
Mike O’Dell, Construction Director of Auburn Group, commented, “The Cliffs Pavilion is a beloved landmark in Southend-on-Sea, and we are honored to be entrusted with its renovation.”
“This project marks a significant milestone for Auburn Group, showcasing our capabilities in enhancing iconic structures.
“We’re thrilled to commence work on this comprehensive refurbishment, which will secure the venue’s place in the community for years to come. Our priority is to maintain the venue’s operational status throughout construction, working in close partnership with the management team and local stakeholders to bring this ambitious vision to fruition with minimal disruption.”
