Balfour Beatty secures £192m deal to construct new substations

The contract, awarded through the GIS2 RIIO T2 framework to which the company was appointed in 2022, marks a significant milestone. Reports Construction Journal

Balfour Beatty will leverage its Power Transmission & Distribution expertise along with its regional capabilities in Scotland to design and construct three new 275kV substations in Craig Murrail, An Suidhe, and Crarae.

Main construction is set to commence later this summer. At the peak of construction, Balfour Beatty will employ approximately 200 people.

These new substations are a key component of SSEN Transmission’s Argyll and Kintyre reinforcement strategy. Upon completion, they will enhance and strengthen the electrical transmission infrastructure in Argyll, supporting the anticipated increase in renewable energy production in the region.
