Construction is set to begin this month on two major education projects in South Wales — the Barry Waterfront Campus and an Advanced Technology Centre at Cardiff Airport — both scheduled for completion by mid-2027.
The Barry Waterfront Campus, designed by Sheppard Robson, will become a vibrant vocational hub for up to 900 students. It will include a fully operational salon and a training restaurant, both open to the public, offering real-world learning experiences.
Meanwhile, the Advanced Technology Centre at Cardiff Airport will support up to 2,000 learners, with a strong focus on cutting-edge disciplines such as AI, robotics, composite materials, and net-zero technologies. The facility will also feature a dedicated business centre and a “green skills house” to deliver specialist training in renewable energy.
Both projects are being developed to meet Welsh Government decarbonisation targets and will operate as net zero carbon buildings.
Bouygues UK, the main contractor, plans to involve local subcontractors and create apprenticeship opportunities throughout the construction phase.
Philippe Bernard, ceo of Bouygues UK, said the project shows its “tangible contribution to the training of tomorrow’s talent and to the ecological transition of the education sector.”
