The Camden Film Quarter development at Regis Road in Kentish Town will deliver 11 purpose-built sound stages, more than 100,000 sq ft of creative workspace and 485 new homes, with 50% of the residential units designated as affordable housing.
Developer Yoo Capital said the project will create a fully integrated film and television production hub, bringing together studio facilities, creative businesses, education providers and new homes within a single mixed-use masterplan.
Oxygen Studios will operate the sound stages, while housing association Places for People has been appointed to deliver 243 affordable homes as part of the scheme.
Designed by SPPARC, the development will be centred around a creative industries cluster that will also accommodate the National Film and Television School and London Screen Academy, providing education and training facilities for more than 500 students.
The wider consultant team includes Broadway Malyan for housing design, Oxygen Studios for studio operations, Montagu Evans for planning and heritage advice, Spacehub for landscape architecture, Momentum Transport Consultancy for transport planning and Atelier Ten for sustainability services.
Developers estimate the project will create around 3,960 direct operational jobs and generate approximately 5,155 net additional jobs across the wider economy.
Alongside the film studios and residential development, the scheme will provide 1.1 hectares of public open space, plant 301 new trees, deliver a new recycling centre and restore the Grade II-listed Kentish Town Police Station.
Yoo Capital co-founder and managing partner Lloyd Lee said: “Camden Film Quarter is much more than a film studio development. It is a complete creative ecosystem that brings together production, education, employment, homes, culture and public space within a single integrated vision.”
The approval represents a significant boost for London’s film and television production sector as demand for purpose-built studio space continues to rise, driven by ongoing investment from global streaming platforms and major film companies.
The development also forms a key part of Camden Council’s wider regeneration strategy for the Regis Road Growth Area, transforming a predominantly industrial site into a vibrant mixed-use neighbourhood combining creative industries, housing and public spaces.
