Clyde Gateway energy scheme works begin

A major energy regeneration scheme worth £6.1m was started in Dalmarnock to tackle fuel poverty with a sustainable heating system. This is known to be Scotland’s biggest regeneration programme at Clyde Gateway.

SP Energy Networks’ Green Economy Fund has funded £2.1m in the scheme. The Clyde Gateway site comprising homes and businesses will be heated using the cost of £6.1m on the new system.

A metered system is used for allowing the residents to get hot water with instant supply of heat. And this new system does cover the pay for the actual energy used. The modern system has been designed to be considerably more efficient than conventional heating.

Clyde Gateway’s new EastWorks offices located at the former Purifier Studios and 50 homes will be able to use the new heating system initially. They will be connected to the district heating network.

However the connections to over 300 homes and commercial businesses are yet to happen over the coming years. Scottish Water Horizons has collaborated to build the new system along with a commercial subsidiary of Scottish Water, and the Dalmarnock WasteWater Treatment Works.

Clyde Gateway will use the waste heat to supply heating for homes and businesses with the contractor. Besides, Vital Energi Utilities is set to lay a 3km of pipeline to transport hot water into homes and businesses.
