Dacorum Borough Council has been fined £100k for exposing 7 ground maintenance men to the risk of hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), caused by the excess use of power tools. Health & Safety Executive (HSE) investigation has found that the council hadn’t adequately planned its working methods and didn’t inform employees on the risks to their health. Moreover, Dacorum Borough Council didn’t limit the duration or magnitude of exposure to vibration & failed to put in place suitable health surveillance to identify problems at an early stage.
