A 500-home urban village construction was started by Developer Salboy on the edge of Manchester. This £120m development is being delivered by Salboy’s contracting arm Domis on a swoop of land bounded by the River Irwell.
This village development site was previously used for Manchester Racecourse. Castle Irwell is a legacy development for Salboy co-founder Fred Done, who worked at the Racecourse in its heyday and who went on to found bookmakers BetFred.
Calderpeel Architects has designed the housing project while it will be arranged in neighborly courtyards with a central village green. It is rather emphasized by walk or cycle than to prefer cars. Besides, Manchester city centre a 15-minute bike ride away.
The newly developing area can be easily accessed by public transport. The first phase will be complete by next spring as the development will bring 157 family homes according to the schedule.
