Planning approval has been granted for the £140 million, a 618-apartment build-to-rent project at Kirkstall Road in Leeds by developer Glenbrook. More than half of the 5.1-acre site, which is on the banks of the River Aire, will be set aside for open space for the general public, including a brand-new riverfront park. The dwellings will be spread over five brick-clad structures that blend in with the current riverbank. More than 10,000 square feet of amenity space, including a residents’ lounge, a co-working center and gym, 3,800 square feet of commercial space, and 6,000 square feet of private exterior terraces, will be included in the complex, which Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher designed.
“We identified this prominent former brownfield site as having enormous potential, and achieving planning will enable us to construct a highly sustainable development that will act as a catalyst for the wider regeneration of Kirkstall Road,” said Daniel Roberts, Senior Development Manager at Glenbrook, to the team at Construction Journal. Now that planning is assured, we plan to start construction on the site later this year.
