Australian firm buys £300m gigaplant backer Britishvolt

The project’s main contractor, ISG, halted building last summer when the money ran out for the project. The new owners have now announced they intend to move forward with plans to build a £300 million car battery facility in Northumberland, reports Construction Journal.

“We are happy to have been successful in our proposal for ownership of Britishvolt; our plans are the correct ones for the local community and the UK economy,” stated David A. Collard, founder, and CEO of Recharge Industries’ parent firm Scale Facilitation. Our proposal combined a highly plausible strategy to quickly deploy personnel and equipment with our financial, commercial, technological, and industrial capabilities. We have the necessary strategy in place to assist and match the region’s drive and ambition to dominate the global battery market. We’re confident of making the Cambois Gigafactory a success and growing it into an advanced green energy project. We can’t wait to get started and want to start as soon as possible.”

Recharge Industries are now constructing Australia’s first large-scale lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility.
