Kier wins £73m Southport events centre job

Kier will now sign a pre-construction services deal before signing a full contract later this year, Sefton Council has stated. On the site of the former Southport Theatre, construction will result in the construction of a brand-new, cutting-edge events centre and an accompanying water and light display. Planning approval is anticipated this spring for the project that was acquired under the Procure Partnerships North West Framework. Kier has committed to a unique social value plan through which the company will support communities around Sefton.

According to Construction Journal, Sefton Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills Councillor Marion Atkinson stated: “By giving Kier preferred status, we are entrusting the physical construction of the facility to an experienced contractor with a solid track record. The project’s appeal to the top construction companies in the UK, as well as the winning bidder’s position, confirms the scope of vision for Southport’s future that this transformational project displays.

“The ultimate objective is to create a completely adaptable, expandable cultural venue that can host events that other towns and cities would envy, such as concerts, stand-up comedy, family performances, musical theatre, conferences, and exhibitions. In order to make MLEC a roaring success, Kier shares the goals of Sefton Council and the Southport Town Deal.”
