GMI to build Barnsley warehouse for Symphony

GMI Construction will work as the main contractor for the £40m construction of purpose-built student accommodation scheme (PBSA). The contractor has been appointed to carry out the works on Carlton Hill in Leeds.

The development will see the demolition of a 20-year-old residence for 239 students and its replacement with a bigger block for 604. While the expected deadline for completion is set to be September 2023, the new building might be constructed with 15 storeys at the highest point.

The developer is Pickard Properties. Besides, Unipol Student Homes will lease the building for use by students attending the University of Leeds. It will incorporate several fully landscaped three-storey ‘sky gardens’, allocated to clusters of flats.
