Wolverhampton picks McLaughlin & Harvey for £50m campus

The City of Wolverhampton has selected McLaughlin & Harvey as its top construction partner for a new educational campus in the city centre. The company, which constructed Birmingham’s main stadium for the Commonwealth Games this year, has been hired on a pre-construction contract and will create comprehensive plans and carry out preliminary work for the City Learning Quarter project before building officially starts in the spring.

It will include the Metro One Campus of the City of Wolverhampton College, the council’s adult education programme, and the main library. The committee and the City of Wolverhampton College are working together to create the project, which was initially funded with a £6.2 million investment from the council and Black Country LEP. Additionally, the council has received cash from the Towns Fund for £5 million, the Levelling Up Fund for £20 million, and the Department of Education for £20 million.

The 10,000 square metre project will be built in the vicinity of Old Hall Street and St. George’s Parade, and it will include the location of the closed Faces nightclub on Garrick Street and Bilston Street. It will also be adjacent to the brand-new, $150 million transportation hub.
