Morgan Sindall to take up works for first phase of £36m education campus

Morgan Sindall starts £31m Leeds resi scheme

The first phase of a £36m new education campus will be constructed by Morgan Sindall after being confirmed as preferred bidder. The site in Alconbury Weald, Cambridgeshire will be developed by Morgan Sindall.

The Alconbury Weald project include homes, community facilities, primary school, play areas, green spaces, and over a million square foot of business space. Morgan Sindall has also recently acquired two other projects namely Birmingham University Lab and Spitfire museum at Stoke.

In the current project gained for Phase 1 under Alconbury Weald, the Alconbury Education Hub comprises the construction of a 600-place secondary school, a 300-place sixth form and 130-place special free school. The schools are scheduled to open from September 2023/2024.

The construction site of the education campus is located in the centre of the overall development. The campus is said to lie at the end of a new park which will transform the old runway of the former Cold War airfield.

The Campus buildings will be adjacent to a civic square and will connect the schools to the wider community. The campus also forms to be an important landmark. Morgan Sindall Construction previously delivered the £8.9m Ermine Street Church Academy in 2016.
