A new planning application proposes the construction of a 27-storey purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) tower providing 673 student bedrooms, alongside a 23-storey co-living building containing 380 homes. The wider mixed-use development also includes 80 affordable homes.
Designed by CJCT Architects, the scheme is planned for a vacant site on Millennium Way, adjacent to the Silvertown Tunnel approach roads and opposite a former gasholder site that is earmarked for future redevelopment.
Planning documents submitted with the application highlight a significant shortage of student accommodation in the area, estimating a shortfall of 1,871 student bedspaces across the wider catchment and 581 within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, even after accounting for developments currently in the pipeline.
Ravensbourne University has expressed its support for the proposals, stating that demand for purpose-built student accommodation remains exceptionally high and continues to outstrip available supply.
The development is the latest addition to a growing pipeline of student housing projects across the Greenwich Peninsula, reflecting increasing demand from London’s higher education sector.
Nearby proposals include Scape’s planned three-tower student accommodation scheme on the former gasholder site, Fairview’s revised Boord Street development and Knight Dragon’s wider Greenwich Peninsula masterplan, which includes around 1,000 additional student rooms.
