Civils specialist Avtar Construction Ltd has entered administration, with Kelly Burton and Joseph Fox of FRP Advisory appointed as administrators on 3 August.
The Swindon-based contractor reported revenue of £33 million for the 18 months to 31 August 2025, while pre-tax profit during the period stood at just under £250,000, resulting in a profit margin of less than 1%.
The company’s short-term creditor liabilities also increased during the period. Avtar owed £5.7 million to creditors due within one year at the end of August 2025, compared with £3.8 million 18 months earlier.
Cash reserves improved to just over £200,000 at the latest year-end, up from less than £3,000 recorded a year and a half earlier. However, the company reduced its average workforce from 75 employees to 58 during the 18-month period.
In its annual report published last December, Avtar said it operated primarily in the residential development sector, providing groundworks and associated civil engineering services to national and regional housebuilders.
The company said demand across its core operating regions remained strong and that previous marketing initiatives had helped generate new opportunities and strengthen its forward order book.
Avtar’s directors said: “By continuing to work closely with both new and existing clients, the company aims to secure a significant share of available regional work and further expand its geographical footprint.”
The company’s website describes its offering as a comprehensive range of groundworks services, including excavation, retaining walls, sewerage works and patio construction.
Avtar also undertakes highway improvement projects, embankment stabilisation, concrete defect repairs and other civil engineering works. Its services extend to commercial building projects, including retail refurbishments and office alterations.
