The £900m scheme, driven by Panattoni, is a project that will see the now defunct 7.2m sq ft of logistics and manufacturing space taking over the place of the old car plant. The demolition process has begun on one of the UK’s largest brownfield sites, which is now ripe for future regeneration and development.
Tire Park grounds have obtained detailed planning consent for a single unit of 1.25 m sq ft and outline planning permission for the rest of the site. Winvic will conduct a sitewide contamination soil investigation on behalf of AR Demolition and will manage the demolition of four primary buildings.
They are going to collect a research and development building, a power plant, two car buildings, and 12 ancillary buildings, all of which have existing hardstandings, foundations, and slabs that need to be crushed and reused on-site. The main enabling works will be done in January 2025. Also, Winvic will be in charge of the current substation onsite using the contractor PW Group subcontract.
The ground assessments will entail taking samples from 8m below ground level in 22 sites across the site where structures are scheduled for demolition for appraisal that precedes demolition, e.g. where diesel and petroleum have been previously stored.
Afterwards, broad infrastructure work will be implemented, which will incorporate plateaus for the first seven of the eleven net-zero-carbon buildings being constructed, offering sophisticated industrial space appropriate for logistics, manufacturing, and data centre uses.
