A £23m contract between Highways England and Amey Sir Robert McAlpine (Amey SRM) was signed for the A533 Expressway Bridge Replacement scheme in the North West. A new two-span structure will replace the existing 70m span bridge that runs the A533 Expressway over the M56 motorway. This older construction is said to have reached the end of its life.
The newer replacement bridge will be constructed adjacent to the older one. Amey SRM will start the construction starting from spring 2021 and scheduled to complete in summer 2022. The Framework Partnership Director for Amey SRM, Robert Allen said that our combined skills in safety, bridge engineering, and road maintenance will be invaluable in delivering all elements of this exciting project. He also added that we show perfection from design and demolition to construction.
The company ensures that the minimal disruption is occurring as the main concrete bridge deck will be assembled offline in a nearby compound. Later a self-propelled modular transporter will fit the decks into its final position.
